In addition to import duty, importers are required to pay a value-added tax for goods brought into Vietnam. VAT are either 0%, 5% or 10%, and depending on the types of goods, these rates would be applied accordingly. In some cases, mostly for goods that cannot be produced in Vietnam and are essential from import, they can enjoy an exemption.
For medical supplies, they are currently enjoying a 5% VAT when imported.
